Mechanical Spine Pain Institute Inc. exists to address an identified gap in the physical examination skills of family physicians caring for adults with mechanical low back pain and related leg pain. Its continuing professional development content aims to improve the accuracy of clinical assessment and the quality of management of these patients without routine imaging, in line with Choosing Wisely Canada recommendations. The goal is to improve care for these patients in all practice settings, particularly where access to imaging and rehabilitation is limited, including rural and remote communities.
Every patient with spine pain receives a skilled, evidence-informed physical examination at first contact.
Evidence First
Our educational content is supported by research, graded by strength of evidence, and gets updated as the scientific understanding evolves.
Skill Through Practice
Competence in physical examination comes from practice. Our in-person time is devoted to hands-on skill development.
Patient-Centred Care
Our educational programming aims to improve the care patients receive through skilled clinical examinations and management grounded in sound clinical reasoning.
A transparent, peer-reviewed development process.
Built on identified needs
Content reflects 11 years of structured learner feedback, national conference evaluations and Canadian research on access to low back pain care in rural and remote communities.
